It is a transcendent feeling to witness our bride’s Big Day though we are still in London and not in Canada for this romantic elopement in the mountains.
Carmen asked me if I can create a cream bridal shawl with a wide lavender ribbon for her ceremony. And I was happy to do it. It looks wonderful with her lavender themed wedding.
Carmen and Michael tied the knot in the presence of close friends and family in an idyllic mountain landscape after more than eight years spent together. Their sincere happiness and true love radiate from each and every picture. How captivating it was to browse their wedding photos!
From the bride…
How did you two meet?
Michael and I grew up in the same town and got together just after high school. We got engaged on our 8 year anniversary.
What kind of wedding did you want?
We wanted a small wedding and liked the elopement idea, but did want our close family to be there. Also, we like British Columbia and wanted to stay here in BC. We found the Tin Poppy Retreat online; they are an elopement location in Salmon Arm, up in Larch Hills that puts on the wedding for you. With solar powered cabins and a site for the wedding ceremony that overlooks the valley, they can accommodate a small number of guests, so we had our immediate family and our childhood best friends with us.
Nice and small, relaxed and private environment - it was a great choice for a laid back, intimate wedding.
Tell us a bit about the Big Day
We stayed at the Tin Poppy for the weekend, Thursday night to Sunday, the ceremony was on Saturday. It unexpectedly snowed the morning of the wedding! Not something we had planned for being almost May in the Lower Mainland. But the snow lightened up just before the ceremony, then lightly snowed during. It ended up being quite beautiful.
Was there anything extra special at your wedding you want to share?
I wore my mother's pearls and my sister-in-law’s hairpiece for the wedding day. Furthermore, I had a thistle vase on our wedding cake that was on my mother's, my grandmothers and my great grandmother's wedding cake too. Not only that, but our cake knife was the cake knife my mother in law used at their wedding; it was engraved with their names and wedding date on it.
We thought it was nice to include something from each side of the family.
Did you have any special guests?
Our dog, Mabel was there too. She was pretty well behaved for being under 2 years old! It was a nice day with our closest friends and our parents and siblings (and dog!).
Thank you so much, Carmen, for letting me be part of your love story and create your wedding shawl.
